Home at the Oktoberfest since 1895

Paulaner Festzelt is a meeting point for young and old. Munich regulars, celebrities and guests from all over the world appreciate our hospitality, our excellent cuisine, our courteous service and above all our Paulaner beer - the number one beer among Oktoberfest beers.

Arabella Schörghuber und Peter Pongratz have been operating as Paulaner Festzelt’s proprieters at the Munich Oktoberfest since 2004.

Paulaner Festzelt has been an integral part of the Oktoberfest since 1895. The Paulaner Tower with the rotating beer mug on top, which is next to the ferris wheel, is the most popoular photo opportunity for Oktoberfest visitors.

In the bright tent, guests have a clear view of the Oktoberfest band, as well as, the grand illuminated beer mug above the band. Outside in the sunny beer garden, one can enjoy a typical Munich “Indian Summer” in late September.

The Paulaner Festzelt

The former "Winzerer Fähndl“ has been a tent at the Oktoberfest since the 19th century.  In 1895, "Winzerer Fähndl“ joined the German Company of Crossbowmen for the first time at the Oktoberfest. The Thomas-Brewery (that fused with Paulaner in 1928) gave the bowmen a grant to build their own beer hall and delivered the beer henceforth. The impressive so-called fortress „Winzerer Fähndl“ with it’s 30 meter high tower, designed as a knight‘s style fortress, attracted much attention when it was built.

If you’re thinking of wine when you hear the word "Winzerer" (= winegrower), you’d be wrong. A Bavarian hero from the Peasant’s Revolt is where "Winzerer", stems from. Non-other than Knight Kaspar Winzerer (1475–1542) from the city of Bad Tölz. He was honored by the Guard, who gladly rallied behind his banner.

At a distance everyone notices the distinct yellow Paulaner Tower with it’s oversized beer mug. There has been a similar beer mug design for more than 100 years. It is speculated that 42,300 Liters could theoretically fit in this beer mug, as it majestically spins over the Paulaner Beer Garden. A beer garden that is regarded by insiders as the prettiest beer garden at the entire Oktoberfest.

Today’s "Paulaner Festzelt" is located at the feet of the Bavaria statue, and is in close poximity to the "tradtional Oktoberfest" grounds or the Bavarian Central Agrucultural Fetival (ZLF). It belongs to one of the most beloved locations at the Wiesn. The charming family tent is well known as a meeting point for young and old guests, regulars, celebrities and guests from all over the world. It is even rumured that in 1984, the former Oktoberfest band played "I will haam nach Fürstenfeld“ for the first time. And that the guests requested to hear it multiple times in the evening.

In 2010, in time for the 200 year anniversary of Oktoberfest, the tent was completely rebuilt and redesigned. By the way, did you know? The tent assembly takes 90 days, but the disassembly only takes 30 days. By mid-June, 58 lorries bring the tent pieces to the Theresienwiese, so that everything is completed on time for the start of Oktoberfest. That way when the first barrel of beer is hit, everyone is ready to say: "O’zapft is!“

High spirited, happily rocking to and fro and enjoying the pure Wiesn sensation is how our visitors from around the world relish the biggest folk festival in the world. Not to forget, the delicious Paulaner Oktoberfest Beer.

The tent has 6,385 seats inside the tent and 1,980 seats outside, which are visited yearly by thousands of hungry and thirsty guests!

Lead by the conductor Georg, "Quetschnblech" join you daily in the afternoon with Bavarian brass band music, classic Wiesn hits, oldies and German hits. Evenings, on the other hand, are guaranteed to be boisterous with fabulous music!

The coolest party band in Munich rocks the Paulaner Festzelt for two hours every night. The combination of their spontaneity and wide range program offers a good mix of Bavarian-rock, international and German party hits. That’s how they draw in any visitors into the Paulaner Festzelt party.

The Paulaner Tower

The 24 meter high tower with its 6 meter tall and approx. 2 ton Paulaner beer mug can be seen from a distance. It serves as a meeting point, and a signpost for hospitable coziness, fresh homemade food and tasty beer.

In 1950, the former proprieter, Willi Kreitmair levitated a helium-filled beer mug balloon in front of the tent formally known as “Winzerer Fähndl”. The following year a tower was built and the rotating „Keferloher“ (= beer stein / mug) was put on the top.

Barrier-free Seating

We offer our Box 3 for barrier-free festival delight and handi-capable seating. These seats are available weekdays, until 4:00 p.m.. They are also available Saturdays, Sundays and the bank holiday (3 October) until 2:00p.m..

After the abovementioned times, these seats can only be reserved by wheel chair users and their companion. Reservation recommended.

If the barrier-free seats are not occupied by wheel chair users weekdays until 5:00 p.m. or Saturdays, Sundays and the bank holiday until 2:00 p.m., then the seats are available to other guests. If the barrier-free seats are not reserved, then the seats are available for other guests.

Barrier-free toilets are found in close proximity to Box 3 -see hall layout.

Your way to the Paulaner Festzelt

The Paulaner Festzelt is located at the foot of Bavaria statue and in close proximity to the historical Oktoberfest area or the Bavarian Central Agricultural Festival (ZLF). From a distance you can see the 24 meter tower with the 6 meter Paulaner beer mug on top.

There are no parking spaces on the festival site - the park-and-ride facilities of the MVV are recommended for those arriving by car. Exception: parking spaces for guests with mobile restrictions on the southern part of Theresienwiese (entrance via Hans-Fischer-Straße).

Arrival at the Oktoberfest

Public transport: MVV

We recommend using public transportation to and from Oktoberfest to ensure your safety.
The closest underground stations on Thersienwiese are the Theresienwiese stops (U4 / U5 - often overcrowded during the Oktoberfest), Poccistraße or Goetheplatz (U3 / U6).

The nearest S-Bahn station is the "Hackerbrücke" stop (approx. 10 minutes on foot to the Oktoberfest).
Bus stops around Theresienwiese are: Poccistraße (62, N40, N41), Goetheplatz (58, X98, N40, N41, N45), Schwanthalerhöhe (53, 134), Georg-Hirth-Platz and Beethovenplatz (58), Hans- Fischer-Strasse and Herzog-Ernst-Platz (62)

Parking

There are no parking spaces for normal vehicles on the festival site! Parking spaces for guests with mobile restrictions (ID card) can be found on the southern part of Theresienwiese - entrance via Hans-Fischer-Straße.

Buses can be parked at Hansastr. 51 (parking for 80 buses available). The Oktoberfest site can be reached on foot in about 10 minutes. Additional parking spaces for coaches are in Fröttmaning (Allianz Arena) and at the Riem exhibition center.

You will find taxi ranks at the main entrance to the Oktoberfest - Bavariaring.

Reservations can only be processed through our online tool. Reservation requests via telephone, post, email or personally on site (fax not available) will not be processed!

Lost and Found

All lost items found in the Paulaner Festzelt are collected daily by security. Found items are then brought to the Oktoberfest Lost and Found Office from the city of Munich. This is located in the service station on the festival grounds.
